Toughened glass roof glazing.
Pilkington toughened glass ths is the heat soaked form of pilkington toughened glass for those applications where a reduction in spontaneous fracture is advantageous such as structural applications barriers and roof glazing.
Laminated safety glass is often recommended for roof glazing although toughened glass is sufficient for some overhead glazing applications.
For double glazing the lower pane should be one of either pilkington optilam or pilkington pyroshield 2 and the upper pane need not be a safety glass.
Toughened laminated glass is similar to annealed laminated glass but the sheets of glass that are laminated together have been toughened and heat soak tested.
Generally two sheets of toughened glass provide the most economical solution for domestic projects where the rooflight is no more than 5m above floor level.
The regulations allow the use of toughened glass overhead however if toughened glass is used as the lower pane then a safety glass must be used in the upper pane.
If the glass roof forms part of an accessible area it must be treated as a glass floor.
